Hi Amy! Tell us about yourself - how did you get into doing wedding hair?
After an inspiring 17-year journey in hairdressing, I realised I craved more creativity. So, in 2020, I took a leap and invested in bridal hair training, launching my business along the way! Now, I split my time between working in a salon three days a week and bringing joy to brides on weekends during the summer. I absolutely love hearing each bride’s unique journey—from their first meeting with their partner, to the engagement and beyond. These connections and special moments with all these wonderful women truly light up my world!
What’s a typical wedding day like for you?

On wedding days, I typically arrive between 7am and 9am, depending on the schedule. For smaller weddings, I usually prepare 4 to 6 people. The booking process provides a detailed timeline, which helps keep everything running smoothly and ensures everyone is ready to shine!

Weddings can be full of all kinds of emotions - how do you fit into that?

Most of my brides approach their big day with a relaxed attitude, which is fantastic! If any little stresses start to creep in, I’m here with calming words and support—sometimes even a comforting hug. My goal is to help them stay grounded and enjoy every moment of their special day!

What’s been your most memorable wedding moment?

One of my funniest memories is when a colleague almost got locked inside the cottage we were working from! But honestly, every wedding is memorable in its own special way. I often feel a warm connection with the people I work with, and those moments are what I cherish the most.

What’s your advice for brides choosing a wedding hair stylist for their big day?

When choosing a stylist, remember that your inspiration should align with your hair type. If you’re dreaming of a style with extra length, texture, or volume, don’t hesitate to consider hair extensions! I’ve noticed that younger brides often come in with high expectations, so it’s important to manage those while staying true to your vision. Take the time to really explore artists’ profiles and show them examples of their work that resonate with you. Happy planning!

Next up, we have the lovely Georgia Ward who runs Georgia Claire Bridal. Georgia works as a wedding hair stylist throughout the Cotswolds – one of the most sought after wedding venues in the UK – and also regularly travels to Bath, Bristol , Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. When she’s not busy tending to brides, she can be found cutting and styling hair at the hugely popular Kate Bloom Hair & Beauty in Cheltenham.

Thanks for talking to us, Georgia! How did you get into doing wedding hair?
I started ‘Georgia Claire Bridal’ in 2021, having worked in hairdressing for nine years. Covid had taken over and I wasn’t able to practise on real people, so I decided to invest in a rather expensive doll head and practise hair-up styling whilst stuck at home! I found a wealth of knowledge online by following talented bridal stylists offering education for other professionals whilst no one was able to work. I discovered I absolutely loved styling hair in this unique way AND became a bit obsessed with the wedding industry! I’m so happy to have my own wedding business!
What’s a typical wedding day like for you?
It’s usually an early morning – sometimes I get started on my first person at 6am! I like to arrive early and make sure everyone has ample time to get ready. I’m all about the no-stress vibe and will do everything to make sure no one is rushed and everyone feels calm. I’m there right from wake-up, all the way through until it’s time to fit the veil or just do some finishing touches before the ceremony. I have even been known to help with buttoning up dresses and buckling shoes! When the bride comes to sit in my chair, I like to make sure she’s comfy before we start – has she had something to eat and drink? Been to the loo? I also make sure no one needs anything from her before we begin, so she can relax for an hour and focus on herself.

Weddings can be full of all kinds of emotions - how do you fit into that?

Because I’m usually there throughout the whole morning right up until it’s time to see the registrar, I’m often in the middle of ‘first looks’ between the bride and her father, and moments between mother and daughter, or the bride and her bridesmaids. It can be emotional and whilst I like to give everyone their space, I appreciate the beautiful moments between loved ones on such a memorable day.

The most frequent feedback I receive is how calm I am, despite the pressure to stick to a schedule and make sure the whole bridal party is looking their best. I honestly find this is the best way to be – imagine if the professionals around you were flapping around with zero-chill?! I’m ready for most things and pretty comfortable with giving a hand with whatever comes my way.

What’s been your most memorable wedding moment?

Lots of people want me to give them the juicy deets on wedding day dramas or whether I’ve ever dealt with any ‘bridezillas,’ but I’ve never experienced a difficult bride!

My memorable moments might be the mother of the bride looking in the mirror and welling up, thanking me because she’s never felt so beautiful. Or taking the bride to a quiet room while we pop in her hair accessories, knowing that she really just needed an excuse to take a breather away from the noise and excitement. Seeing how I can help the bride in such a personal way before she goes off to marry her favourite person makes me grateful for the work that I do!

What’s your advice for brides choosing a wedding hair stylist for their big day?

I think when you’re looking at hair and makeup artists, you can generally use the same rule for both which is find someone who fits your vibe! I know cost is an important factor for some but you’ve got to make sure the stylist you choose is able to align the way they work with styles that suit you and what you’re comfortable with. For example, I wouldn’t necessarily be the perfect fit for someone interested in vintage hairstyles and you can tell that by the lack of it in my portfolio! However I do lots of classic & glamorous styles such as big bouncy waves, French twists, glossy half-ups and buns!

So, my biggest bit of advice is if you don’t see any styles you like on the artists’ website or socials, then it’s likely that they just don’t do the kind of style you’re looking for and that’s your sign to keep looking – there’s someone out there for everyone so don’t worry!
